1962 Loadside Registry

369 Loadsides were built in model year 1962, the final year of production. The '62 Loadside is the least-produced of all Corvair models. The trucks were built in both Flint, MI and St. Louis, MO. Chevy production information furnished by Dave Newell makes it possible to tell which month a given Loadside was built.

As of August 17, 2007, there are 15 1962 Loadsides in this registry: 3 built in Flint and 11 built in St. Louis.

Decoding a Loadside VIN

Decoding a Loadside VIN is very straightforward. For example, in this sample VIN:

2R124S104789

bullet2 is the last digit of the model year (1962)
bulletR124 is the model (R124 = Rampside and Loadside; R125 = Corvan; R126 = Greenbrier)
bulletS is the production plant (St. Louis, MO; F = Flint, MI)
bullet104789 is the vehicle serial number (starts at 100001)

It is possible for vehicles to differ by only the letter ("S" or "F"), since numbering started at 100000 at both plants. However, with four models being produced, the number of such near-duplicates is likely to be fairly low.

As of 01/02/2003, I am aware of six other '62 Loadsides and have contacted the owners. I hope to hear from them soon!

If you're wondering about how Loadsides could be equipped, you can browse information on '62 FC standard equipment, tires, options, prices, and colors. Several Loadsides were used by the military and 3 of those in the registry to date have a military heritage.
