1964 Rampside Registry851 Rampsides were built in model year 1964, the final year of production. The '64 Rampside is the third-least-produced of all Corvair models. The trucks were built in both Flint, MI and St. Louis, MO through December of 1963. Production continued into July of 1964 but only at the St. Louis location. Chevy production information furnished by Dave Newell makes it possible to tell which month a given Rampside was built. As of August 09, 2008, there are 93 1964 Rampsides in this registry: 12 built in Flint and 80 built in St. Louis. This represents just over 10% of the total production. Decoding a Rampside VINDecoding a Rampside VIN is very straightforward. For example, in this sample VIN:
The serial numbers were not unique until production in Flint was discontinued. Therefore, it is possible for vehicles in the 1000001 - 103344 range to differ by only the letter ("S" or "F"), although with three models being produced, the number of such near-duplicates is still likely to be fairly low. Delivery DateSome Rampsides have a delivery date stamped on the VIN tag by the dealer (just after the "DD"). Dave Newell describes the purpose and format of the stamp very clearly:

There appear to be very few Flint-built Rampsides! St. Louis, MO Production
If you're wondering about how Rampsides could be equipped, you can browse information on '64 FC standard equipment, tires, options, prices, and colors. Canadian ImportsThanks to Dave Newell, I now have a list of '64 Rampsides that were imported by GM Canada. Only seven '64 Rampsides went to Canada as official imports. Their VINs are listed below (minus the "4R124"):
it's no surprise that none of these vehicles are in the registry--Canada's legendary winters take a heavy toll on all vehicles, especially utility vehicles. If you have any information about other '64 Rampsides, contact me via email. Thanks! |
